About the event
Honoring our Ancestors is inspired by The Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) - a two day holiday that reunites the living and dead. Families create an altar of offerings (ofrendas) to honor their departed family members. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored.
Ruth will guide us in setting up the altar of offerings, as we learn about the traditions of the day. There will be a guided meditation of connection to our ancestors. We will share food and tell stories.
To participate in the event, please bring:
- A dessert or finger food to share that reflects your ancestors. Coffee and tea provided.
- Your own plate and cup and silverware to eat with - connected to your ancestors, if possible.
- A framed photograph of an ancestor or two to add to the altar.
- Be thinking about family stories, and what you might share in a small group.
- A sliding scale donation of $10-$25, if you are able.
An RSVP is required, and space may be limited. Use the contact page to register.
